A-Prefixing
Attaching an a in present progressive verb forms, but not to gerunds, in certain dialects of English, e.g., “A storm is a-brewing.” (historical linguistics)

Tree Model
A way of representing language change using a family tree. This model emphasizes the genetic lineage of each daughter language with systematic changes (e.g. sound laws) taking place on specific branches. (historical linguistics)
