Richard K. Larson

As a theoretical syntactician, Richard Larson has investigated the formal structure of various sentence and phrase types, e.g., serial verb construction, adverbial clauses, DPs, control sentences, and double object construction.  His analysis in “On the Double Object Construction” (1988) not only has consequences for the syntactic structure and derivation of ditransitive sentences, but also leads to the hypothesis of VP shell, which in turn has significant implications for the VP structure in general.
